Make this rich, savory, and slightly sweet homemade peanut sauce in just five minutes. It is perfect as a quick dip, a versatile dressing for salads, or a drizzle for noodles and bowls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup warm water (or more, for thinning)
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sriracha or chili garlic sauce (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients near your mixing bowl or jar.
  2. Place the peanut butter, warm water, soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, lime juice, sesame oil, and ginger into a medium bowl.
  3. Whisk vigorously until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. If the sauce is too thick for your liking, add more warm water, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. If you are using Sriracha, stir it in now.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if needed; add more lime for tang or maple syrup for sweetness.
  6. Use immediately as a dip or dressing, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for later use.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free sauce, substitute tamari for soy sauce.
  • This sauce works well as a marinade for chicken or tofu before grilling or baking.
  • If you prefer a thinner peanut dressing, increase the warm water content slightly.
