Make this simple, velvety garlic sauce in under 15 minutes. It is a versatile condiment perfect for dipping fries, drizzling over steak, or serving with grilled chicken.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 large cloves fresh garlic, minced very fine
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 tablespoons cold water (for thinning, if needed)

Instructions

  1. Place the minced fresh garlic, mayonnaise, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper into a small bowl.
  2. Use a whisk or a fork to combine all ingredients thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
  3. Taste the sauce. Add more salt or lemon juice if you prefer a sharper flavor.
  4. If the sauce is too thick for drizzling, add cold water one teaspoon at a time, mixing well after each addition, until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill the garlic sauce in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the garlic flavor to meld with the other ingredients.
  6. Serve this versatile condiment with grilled dishes, roasted vegetables, or as a best garlic dip recipe.

Notes

  • For a Mediterranean garlic dip texture similar to Toum, use a food processor and slowly drizzle in the oil while processing to help emulsify the sauce.
  • You can substitute half the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt for a lighter, low-fat garlic sauce option.
  • This easy homemade garlic sauce keeps well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
