A warming, slightly decadent cocktail combining hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and a layer of lightly whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz hot freshly brewed coffee
  • 1.5 oz Irish whiskey
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • Lightly whipped heavy cream (enough to float)

Instructions

  1. Warm a clear glass mug or heatproof glass.
  2. Add the brown sugar to the bottom of the warm mug.
  3. Pour the hot coffee into the mug over the sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  4. Add the Irish whiskey to the coffee mixture.
  5. Gently spoon the lightly whipped cream over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the coffee mixture. Do not stir after adding the cream.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use lightly whipped cream; if the cream is too stiff, it will not float properly on the hot liquid.
  • For best results, use a good quality Irish whiskey.
  • You can substitute white sugar for brown sugar, but brown sugar adds a deeper flavor.
