Achieve incredibly tender and juicy turkey breast without turning on your oven. This easy, hands-off slow cooker turkey breast recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or freeing up space for holiday sides.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 to 5 pound) boneless or bone-in turkey breast
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or apple cider
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Wipe the turkey breast dry with paper towels. If using a bone-in breast, tuck the wing tips under the body.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create the herb rub.
  3. Rub the herb mixture evenly over the entire surface of the turkey breast.
  4. Pour the chicken broth or apple cider into the bottom of your slow cooker.
  5. Place the seasoned turkey breast on top of the liquid in the slow cooker. If the breast is very thick, you can place it on a small rack inside the slow cooker if you have one, to keep it out of the liquid, but this is not required.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, or on HIGH for 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Cooking time depends on the size and whether it is bone-in or boneless.
  7. The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Tent loosely with foil and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  9. If you desire gravy, skim any excess fat from the liquid remaining in the slow cooker. Thicken the remaining liquid with a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water) and cook on HIGH for 5-10 minutes until thickened.

Notes

  • For extra flavor and moisture, you can place sliced onion and celery beneath the turkey breast in the slow cooker.
  • If you want a slightly browned exterior, carefully transfer the cooked turkey to a baking sheet and broil for 3-5 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  • This recipe works well for both boneless turkey breast slow cooker meals and bone-in turkey breast.
